I am an observer... views outside my
window, people, nature. The primary attraction for
my compositional choices is color. I isolate details
of a scene with photographs and sketches - from
these, my paintings begin.
Nature is a sanctuary a place for meditation and
renewal - a palette of images that may seem ordinary
and often go unnoticed. As an ancient Tao poem
states,
"...the sacred lies in the ordinary."
Much of today's art is inspired by social problems.
My paintings are inspired by color and by nature.
They often evoke serenity and invite contemplation.
In today's complex and fast moving society, we need
a moment to slow down, to reflect, to relax.
The transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote,
"To the body and mind which have been cramped
by noxious work or company, nature is medicinal
and restores their tone." |
